On 2020-08-11 by Tim Gibbons - Addison WeatherKing Furnace
I bought a house with an old Addison WeatherKing forced air heater. The model and serial numbers on the sticker inside are: Model: GUWC080AD4 / SN: GN3D202 F4586 9722.
I believe it might have been installed around 1983, possibly later. I called Rheem first but they have no information from when Addison sold them.
I called Addison in Florida but they have no infomration about it either. I'm looking for a manual for it.
Also, the filter (that apparently was not changed for at least 25 years, per the previous owner) is the strangest I've ever seen. It was made by GT Industries, who no longer make a filter and don't know about it.
It looks to be made from a brown fiber of some kind (looks like horsehair, almost), possibly plant-based. I'm looking to at least install a new filter, am thinking that a MERV 3 is probably the highest rating I'd use, because of airflow. Any thoughts? Thanks!

American Furnace Co - AFCO
In 1968 AFCO became part of the climate control division of the Singer Co. In 1970 became Singer American Furnace.
Don't confuse model number with serial number. The serial number, not the model number, will give the equipment's date of manufacture. The serial number is given on the Ameristar equipment data tag, typically below the larger-font Model Number.

ARCO was bought by SnyderGeneral in 1984 from oil company Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) and was added to Snyder General's Climate Control unit as Arcoaire.
In 1991 Arcoaire became part of Inter-City Products (name later changed to International Comfort Products). In 1999, ICP was in turn acquired by United Technologies, the parent of Carrier Corporation. - see CARRIER AIR CONDITIONERS, BOILERS FURNACES
Arcoleader heating boilers were produced up to the late 1960s.

Can anybody please help me find out what year my Chrysler Airtemp gas furnace is? The model#42123C1421,serial#BN352020 I would like to know how efficient it is 56%,65% or 70%. I think its a 1963 or 1964 furnace,it was in the house when i bought It and the house was build in 1964 and there is no signs or paper work that it was replaced at anytime, just paper work on when it was tuned up or serviced.

Patrick it's a reasonable question to ask but not one that can be answered with not a shred of information about the home, heat loss rate, number of heating or cooling degree days, etc. IN other words the decision on economy needs to include the heating load.

Firetube boilers are available for low or high pressure steam, or for hot water applications. Firetube boilers are typically used for applications ranging from 15 to 800 horsepower. A firetube boiler is a cylindrical vessel, with horizontal tubes passing through and connected to the front and rear tube sheets.
The vessel contains the water and absorbs the energy generated from the flame. The front door and rear door provide the seal to contain the hot combustion gases. Baffles designed into the doors serve to redirect the combustion gases through the fire- tubes.
The flame originates in the furnace. As the combustion gases travel down the furnace and through the fire- tubes, heat from the flame and combustion gases is transferred to the water. The swirling action caused by the rifled firetubes provides a much more efficient heat transfer capability. Transferred energy develops into the required steam or hot water. The primary purpose of the boiler is to supply energy to the facility's operations - for heat, manufacturing process, laundry, kitchen, etc.

I have a house that was built in 1950, it has a Crane cast iron gas baseboard heater. It has been leaking, I think a pipe bursted in it last winter, I cannot find the manufacturer. My question is how do you take off the cover, are there screws or do you have to pry it off the wall?
On 2014-09-25 by (mod) - Crane cast iron gas baseboard heater
Kimberly
I don't know the specific cast iron baseboard heater you mention but it would be odd to have to physically pry one from a wall; rather it most likely must be disconnected at either end of its piping and then screws or bolts are found that secure the unit in place. They may be painted over or behind a removable cover.

Question: Need a rating plate for a CWF Duo-Matic Forced Air Coal & Wood Furnace
I have a CWF duo matic forced air coal and wood furnace. I have a serial number but I need a rating plate number for insurance purposes and the numbers are no longer legable. How can I get this? - Jen 10/29/11
Reply:
Jen,
Yours is probably an Olsen Coal/Wood - Oil forced warm air system. The CWF is more likely a model number.
But I think if your equipment is old, you may be out of luck finding anyone at the present company who knows a thing about it. Just look at the brand name history given below.
You might get some help from wood heat suppliers who I found still sell spare parts for Olsen coal/wood furnaces, such as at woodmanspartsplus.com though the parts I saw looked a bit generic. You will find help with estimating BTU output of wood fired heaters and furnaces at a variety of wood heat organizations.
It's no surprise that tracking down the current company selling or servicing older HVAC equipment is difficult. Look at this example: Olsen's product line originated in the 1940's. Olsen's combination heater line was purchased by DMO Industries (previously known as Duomatic-Olsen, then as Olsen Technology).
DMO Industries manufactured two brands of furnaces, Olsen and Airco. Those were sold in 2001 to ECR International (formed in 1999) who now owns Olsen, Airco as well as the Oneida Royal furnace brands, Utica and Dunkirk boilers as well as Enviromaster International central air conditioners.
You wont' find information about any combination fuel heaters in their current product line, though for Olsen products more information may be available from Olsen/Airco at Olsen/Airco Heating & Cooling Products - USA

Throughout the years, Dettson Industries has evolved from being a major manufacturer of heating appliances to the development of sustainable space conditioning solutions. Going forward, the development of finer controls coupled with a growing knowledge of thermodynamic applications will offer residential competitive systems with increased comfort.
It will allow Dettson Industries to become the key manufacturer of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning) industry in North America, or even the emerging large dwarf.

In our many years in business, we have found that two things alone greatly impact the dependable operation and long life of our Equipment:
• operator responsibility and knowledge
• consistent preventive maintenance
Operator Responsibility
It is the operator’s responsibility to provide the daily care and attention required to properly maintaining your EASCO boiler room equipment. This Manual is intended to act as a guide and reference source for those operations, but it cannot replace the keen eye and experienced touch of a trained boiler room operator. It is recommended that a boiler room log be maintained to record daily, weekly, monthly and yearly activities as well as any unusual occurrences.
| Consistent Preventive Maintenance
Regular effective maintenance is the best way to obtain the most efficient operation of your EASCO boiler room equipment. We have found that the life and efficiency of Equipment are dependent upon the consistency of care it receives.
Often efficient operation is a matter of keeping the Boiler clean and the firing equipment property regulated. With proper installation, regular care and the use of genuine EASCO renewal parts, your quality EASCO equipment will last indefinitely.

ENERGY KINETICS SYSTEM 2000 BOILER MANUAL [PDF] (2005) Oil Boiler, [illustrated above]
Excerpt: SYSTEM 2000 comprises a heat source, the energy converter, circulating water, a heavily insulated hot water storage tank and five (or more) zones controlled by an electronic control, the Digital Manager.
The Boiler sits cold until a thermostat calls for heat. The Digital Manager receives the call for heat and turns on the main circulator and burner. Water circulates within the boiler as it warms up to operating temperature.
When ready, the zone valves open and deliver heat to the zones calling for heat. When the thermostats are satisfied, the Digital Manager turns off the burner and enters the energy recovery stage.
The circulator and zone valve stay energized to deliver the heat remaining in the boiler to your home or to the domestic hot water storage tank.
When energy recovery is complete and the Boiler has been cooled off, the Digital Manager turns off the system and waits for another thermostat (or tank thermostat) to call for heat. SYSTEM 2000 runs the burner only when you need heat and delivers that heat only where you need heat.

Gas furnaces, split system air conditioners, split system heat pumps, residential packaged units for heating & cooling, manufactured housing furnaces & air conditioners,

I'll be glad to see if we have or can find the service manual you need, but we'll have a better time of it if you can tell me the brand that goes with that model number; a photo of the unit would be great too.
