What's the meaning of 4 flashes on the Goodman Gas Furnace indicator?

i have a goodman gas furnace.model# gmp 100-3 i am getting a code of four flashes.condition:limit switch open. action:gas valve off. circulator on. inducer on. On 2020-02-08 by jim

Reply by (mod) - Causes of Goodman gas furnace / air handler error code consisting of 4 flashes

Jim

The Goodman gas furnace / air handler error code consisting of 4 flashes may vary by model, but the usual meaning is

that the primary limit circuit open.

Causes include

Loose wiring or a bad electrical connection such as at a control board

Dirty or blocked air filters.

Repair:

First Check and clean or replace any/all air filters

Second: tighten any loose electrical connectors

Third: have your heating service technician check the flue for blockage - this is an important safety check.

Goodman GMP Furnace Red Light Blinking 4 Times - loose connector vs dirty blower fan vs dirty filter

As the heading says I bought a used Goodman GMP 100-4 and the red light on the board blinks 4 times.

As soon as power is turned on tho the Furnace I hear a click and a few seconds later the blower motor and inducer run even with the thermostat disconnected. I have checked the inductor switch and have continuity, and also tried jumping it.

I checked the nipple on the inductor and it is clear, the hose is not kinked. The vacuum pot does open and close when vacuum is applied. the fuse on the board is good.

I did not see a reset button any where.

Also there is a multi connection plug laying in the bottom of the Furnace and I have no idea what it is for.

I just happen to think I have not checked the igniter. It will do the same with the thermostat connect or out of circuit. Am I missing something, is the board the problem. On 2016-10-23 by bob

Reply by (mod) - diagnose and fix Goodman furnace air flow restriction & high limit switch trigger vs loose wiring connector plug

Bob, When the Goodman GMP furnace red error light blinks 4 times that indicates that the furnace high limit switch has opened, turning the hater off.

However, if that loose connector is in fact one that should be plugged into a wiring socket that connects high limit and other furnace controls, then simply plugging the connector back in will probably fix your problem.

Most often the high limit is triggered if air flow through the furnace is restricted, possibly risking overheating, heat exchanger damage and thus risking dangerous flue gas leaks into the building. That's why the high limit will turn the system off until the problem is corrected.

Most often what's needed is simply to replace the air filter with a new, clean one.

In more extreme cases it might be necessary to have a service technician actually clean the blower fan assembly; even a small amount of dust and dirt on the fins of a squirrel cage fan can significantly reduce the airflow through the system.

Blower fan cleaning details are at BLOWER FAN ASSEMBLY CLEANING

Amana RHD60A2A heat pump keeps tripping the circuit breaker

This is 2020. We have a 1996 Amana HUAC system. Last summer running the AC it began popping the circuit breaker once a day or so.

Re-set and all was fine for a day until it popped again. We had service in and he replaced the condenser and at my request, installed a starter kit.

That almost ended the problem but not quite. So on a hunch, I set the electronic thermostat to wait 500 seconds before re-powering the AC after it shut off, adding about 150 seconds to the old setting.

So far, that worked. Maybe someone can explain why, and if something else needs replacing? And maybe someone can tell me who re-builds Amana RHD60A2A heat pumps? 2020 is the last year for legal freon, and there's no way we can afford to replace this system. We're pensioners on a shoestring.

Re-build or find a less used model is all we can do. - On 2020-01-24 by Reybo -

Reply by (mod) - Amana RHD60A2A heat pump rebuild?

Reybo

What was included in "replaced the condenser" ? The whole condenser unit? That would have meant a new compressor, fan, condensing coil & controls.

So we'd not expect a new system to trip the breaker if the setup is properly wired and fused. And you'd not install a starter kit on a new AC compressor motor.

On the other hand if you're using an old compressor motor and it's tripping the breaker, a hard start kit might get it going for a time but you've already been warned that the compressor is at or near the e nd of its life.

Indeed commercial compressor motors are often re-built.

But nobody rebuilds residential A/C or heat pump compressor motors. The compressor is in a hermetically sealed can and is not repairable.

You might find a used unit but I'd be pretty reluctant to try that.

Few people will remove and salvage an old A/C or heat pump that's still working acceptably, so a used residential compressor on the market is risking having to do the job over multiple times- at a cost greater than having replaced the unit with a new one in the first place.

Goodman condenser unit, fan won't run unless you push it. I put a new 35/5 capactor on and same problem. I then put a new fan motor with separate capacitor on and it does same thing.

Voltage at cut off box is 246 and same at main contactor. With contactor engaged in have same voltage .

Compressor starts and runs great. Fan motor is 2 wires to line and 2 brown wires to new capacitor. I even tried another new capacitor with the new motor. Help ! - On 2018-08-05 by Dwight

Can a Goodman AVPTC49c14 be installed in a doublewide mobile home"

Can a Goodman AVPTC49c14 be installed in a doublewide mobile home. - On 2020-06-11 by LISA

If so would anything have to be modified?

Reply by (mod) - check the manual: it MUST say "approved for mobile home use" or "approved for manufactured home use"

Watch out: If a heater is not listed and approved for mobile home installation, modifying it would be unsafe.

We have not found the term "mobile home" nor "manufactured home" in the Amana, Franklin, Goodman HVAC manuals for AVPTC units. So don't try it without first checking with customer support at Goodman - we give contact information for Goodman above on this page. - Daniel
