Abstract Excerpt:
My invention relates to an improvement in gas-logs or heating devices; and it consists in forming such logs of ahollow body of metal and a coating of non-inflammable or lireproof material in imitation of bark and knots, the article thus being light owing to the metal employed for the body and strong and durable owing to the incasement of the body by the coating thereon.
... On the body is a coating of non-inflammable or ireproof material, which is composed of silicate of potassium, with pulverized terra-cotta, asbestos, slate, flint, and glass, and coloring-matter or mineral wool or iron slag in lieu of asbestos.
In
lieu of the terra-cotta, slate, liint, and glass I may use sand, pulverized porcelain, pyrites, or pumicestone, the preferred ingredients being silicate of potassium, iron slag, known as mineral wool, asbestos, and terra-cotta, porcelain, or other earthenware in pulverized condition.

Thanks for a helpful question about the chimney connection for a gas fireplace. No we don't use a single-wall flue vent connector at a typical gas fireplace, nor do we usually vent that fireplace type into a conventional chimney.
Noting that gas-fireplaces or gas-log fireplaces usually are direct-vent systems that do not use a conventional chimney, it's B-vent all the way.
In an illustration I'll include below, excerpted from a Blaze King gas fireplace installation manual, you'll see that starting right at the fireplace we see the factory-supplied double-walled (B-vent) vent material.
See GAS LOG FIREPLACE MANUALS https://inspectapedia.com/heat/Gas-Fireplace-Heater-Manuals.php where you can open any of a number of gas fireplace IO manuals to see installation specifics by manufacturer.
Here is an excerpt from the venting instructions for the Blaze King - selected for this example simply because it's the first gas log fireplace in the source that we listed just above.
Gas Log FIREPLACE VENTING Specifications
This appliance will not function without being connected to a proper venting system. This unit is certified for
use with M&G Duravent, BDM, American Metal, Selkirk (Direct-Temp), Olympia, and ICC venting. manufacturer’s installation instructions before installing the venting system.

NOTE: Maximum vent lengths may be subject to local codes.
For best venting performance, here are some general venting rules:

2. Maintain a minimum of 1” (26 mm) clearance to combustibles from the outside surfaces of vertical
vents and minimum of 1” (26 mm) from bottom, 2 1/2” (64 mm) from sides, and 13” (330 mm) from top surfaces of horizontal vents. Always use a wall thimble when passing through combustible construction.
3. Observe all local code restrictions, if any, regarding the installation of this type of gas appliance.
4. Observe the vent height and length restrictions given in this manual.
5. Never slope horizontal vents downwards.
6. Maintain at least an upward slope of 1/4” (7 mm) for every 1 ft (305 mm) of horizontal vent.
7. Terminate the vent with a termination certified for use with this appliance.

Kindling Comfort natural gas insert needs fan
Have kindling comfort ng insert but had 2 fans when purchased home, 1 quit working, where can I buy a new fan - On 2020-10-28 by Bob

Reply by (mod) - identify the fireplace brand and model, sdtart with the manufacturer or contact the company we list here
Bob:
We need to start by being more-specific of the kind of fan, its location and control and brand and model.
If you are asking about one of the small air circulating fans incorporated into your Kindling Comfort natural gas fireplace insert, those are probably generic devices that can be easily replaced but only when you pull the existing fan to make note of its exact specifications.
An easier approach would be to give the manufacturer a call to ask for the fan directly from them as a replacement part. That assures you of getting the right fan.

Every imaginable fan is available from online vendors and every commmon house fan is available from your local building suppliers, but don't go shopping before you know the fan specifics.
Why does my pilot light burn but the burner itself will not ignite
Why does my pilot light burn but it will not ignite - On 2019-09-23 by David -
Reply by (mod) -
David:
Most-likely the problem is that the gas valve is not opening then the burner won't ignite. So the problem could be the valve itself or even something as simple as a bad thermocouple or bad igniter or igniter wire.
Our illustration here shows an example gas pilot light assembly but there are of course several variations.
Of course there could be another cause I can't see from across the wall, such as a gas spill switch that's tripped.
