On 2020-06-24 by (mod) - Using an RV water pump for my cottage

Pat

Thanks for a great question on the nstallation design for a remote cottage with power but no plumbing.

You simply want to look at the pump capacity curves for any pump you're considering, noting the factors that limit the pump's ability to deliver water at any flow rate or gpm:

- lift height or elevation (6 ft.)

- distance (20 ft)

- elbows or other restrictions

- pipe diameter - is it really 2" entirely?

- required gpm flow rate

- water consumption rate - though with that big 1000L storage tank your pump probably needs to be only a 1-3 gpm capacity unit as you're probably re-filling the tank at a leisurely pace as needed.

Here is a CATALOG of RV Surflo pumps from Pentair that may be helpful

If your pump is being used ONLY to get water to the tank then pump capacity only has to address the factors I listed.

If your RV pump used in the cottage is to be used to provide water at fixtures you might want to go beyond the typical 2-3 gpm RV pump to look at ones with a higher 4-5 gpm flow rate (better shower, for example).

Also consider whether or not your pump needs a filter system to protect the pump and extend its life.

On 2020-06-24 by Pat Slaney - What pump would you recommend for my cottage

I have a rv pump for my cottage now. It pumps water from a 6' elevation (1000 liter holding tank) to my cabin 20 ' away. What pump would you recommend to bring water up to my cottage which is 110' from my cottage. Need a pump up by my cottage close to power source. Thank you. Also have 2" water line.

On 2016-05-25 by (mod) - The primer port should be seeing the same pressure

The primer port should be seeing the same pressure; nevertheless I would check the pump's owners' manual to see where they want you to attach the pressure-sensing tube or line that conducts pressure to the switch;

I've also seen this problem when pumping against a closed valve or dirty filter cartridge.

OH and be sure your water tank's air precharge pressure (with an empty tank) is 2 psi below the pressure switch cut-in setting.

Hello, I need help troubleshooting a new installation of a pump for an irrigation /house system.

I have a well that is supplying water to a 5,000 gal holding tank. I have connected a flotec fp5172 irrigation pump with a square D 30/50 pressure switch (with lever) to pump water after the tank.

Down stream of the pump I have a 85 gal Pentair Pressure tank and after that I have installed a 1.5 inch check valve. My problem is that as the pressure approaches 40lbs, the pressure switch cuts on and off rapidly and never packs the line to 50lbs..

I have checked for leaks and the system is tight. All I can think of is that I piped the switch off the primmer port of the pump because I have positive pressure (due to the tank head). I have assumed that port has the same pressure as the system downstream

I have also checked that the Pressure tank is 2 lbs less that cut in pressure. Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong?
