PPR pipe is a rigid pipe made from Polypropylene Random Copolymer plastic, manufactured using a continuous extrusion process.
PPR is a heat-welded plastic pipe that has improved properties of heat, UV, low thermal conductivity, both hot and cold temperature resistance, abrasion-resistance, long life, ease of cutting and assembly, and outdoor durability that finds wide use in water piping systems.
PPR is also used in some natural gas distribution piping systems and in other HVACR applications. It has also found use in agriculture in irrigation systems, pesticide spraying, and as a protective conduit or sheathing for electrical and optical cable installations.
Prices are a bit higher than some other piping materials, a cost that is perhaps regained in easy and more-rapid installation and in pipe life expectancy.
PPR has a 50-year life expectancy.
Sold with a green or white exterior and a white or gray internal core, PPR is used in both cold and hot water piping systems where its insulating properties provide an additional advantage for hot water pipes.
As a non-toxic plastic PPR is used in both residential and industrial applications and is suitable for use with purified and potable water. PPR is also used for building heating system piping.
You can see in our page top photo that the pipe we used has a white interior tube that is protected by a UV-resistant green exterior sheathing.
You may also notice that the walls of PPR pipe are thicker than copper or PVC piping. So the overall outer diameter (OD) of PPR piping will be greater for pipes of comprable interior diameter (ID).
This green PPR piping is what we used at our UV disinfectant light system installed in Mexico illustrated above.

In areas including our demonstration site in Central Mexico where it's common to install plastic piping outdoors, exposed to strong sunlight, this is a popular product. PPR pipe connections are made by fusing fittings and pipe together using a hot-melt technique that has proven very reliable.
Below: photographs of the heat welding process used to join PPR plastic piping.
These heat-welds are being made using the TurboPlus 1200 Watt heat welding pipe joiner provided by Rotoplas, model RJQ-110, 120VAC produced by Rotoplas S.A. de C.V., Anahuac 91, El Mirador Coyoacan, Distrito Federal, CP 04950, Mexico, Tel: 800-506-3000.
The two PPR pipe components to be joined, a male-fitting and female-fitting, are heated simultaneously on the TurboPlus heater, then removed and quickly pushed together.
