These toilet designs use an in wall flush tank or cistern that is concealed in the building wall above and usually behind the toilet, as we illustrate below with this toilet installed in a Venice, Italy apartment, photo taken by the author in 2017.
While the Venetian toilet above is supplied with flush water from a tank concealed in the bathroom wall (notice the flush control panel in the white area above the toilet), other modern toilets combine a wall-mounted back-flush toilet with a flush tank also concealed in the wall.

This Toto toilet drains into the wall to right, left, or straight down.
Most modern flush toilets that use a water storage have a tank bolted to the toilet bowl or incorporate a tank and bowl in a one-piece-toilet design.
