Heil Tempstar ICP Carrier OLV QuietComfort87 Low boy oil furnace at InspectApdia.com

Above: the OLV QuietComfort®87 ow Boy Oil Furnace, described at the Tempstar website, a member of the ICP or International Comfort Products company, whose furnace warranty names the Carrier Corporation, and whose furnace is also sold under the Heil Heating & Cooling Products brand (Screenshot just below, 2021/05/17 taken at https://www.heil-hvac.com/en/us/products/oil-furnaces/87-low-boy-oil-furnace/)

Heil-Quaker was a Whirlpool brand, bought by Inter-City Gas, in Toronto. ICG re-branded Whirlpool products using the Tempstar brand, and the Heil-Quaker product line is currently owned by ICP International Comfort Products who in-turn were bought by United Technologies in 1999.

Heil HVAC Age Decoder

Heil HVAC equipment manufacturing date is usually encoded in the serial number

YYWW567890

or in the serial number format

XYYWW56790

(ignore the first alphabetic character, pick up the first four numeric digits, and decode them as YYWW as we illustrate here.

Use the first four numeric digits that form YYWW where YY is year of manufacture and WW is week of manufacture in that year.

The remaining numeric digits, usually 5, form a unique serial numer or manufacturing sequence number of the equipment.

This same manufacturing date encoding appears in most HVAC equipment distributed under the ICP brands of:

Arcoaire, Comfortmaker, Heil, ICP, International Comfort Products, Inter-City Products, Keeprite, Tempstar, and UTC, United Technologies Inc.,

On 2021-08-09 by inspectapedia.com.moderator (mod) - Heil furnace trips breaker

@Anonymous,

That sounds to me like a control board or relay failure - since we know the fan itself works as it runs in Heat mode - but not in A/C mode.

On 2021-08-09 by Anonymous

@inspectapedia.com.moderator, the breaker doesn't trip again once it's flipped. Just the one time it tripped. The fan will come on if I turn system heat on.

On 2021-08-09 by inspectapedia.com.moderator (mod) - Heil furnace fan won't turn on in AC mode

@Anonymous,

The "fan won't start" diagnostics above on this page are a good set of things to check first; do take a look.

A tripped breaker may mean that there is a short circuit or failing fan motor - flip the breaker to OFF then back ON.

If it trips again leave it off and call for repair.

I have a heil sp80 and the fan inside the house won't kick on with AC on. The unit outside fan does kick on.

I noticed the line also frosted so i think the compressor kicked on. The blower inside the house does kick on when I turn on system heat. There was a breaker kicked when I discovered ac wasn't working. Any help greatly appreciated!

@joedave, That sounds reasonable to me. You know the fan works because you can run it on manual. Take a look at the fan limit switch on your furnace. It's probably a standard Honeywell unit like those shown in the series.

On 2021-03-22 by joedave - the limit control switch needs to be replaced. fan runs on manual, only

pretty much i think the problem is the limit control switch needs to be replaced. fan runs on manual, only. although, i did hear the fan come on by itself a week or so back. overnight, i have the themostat at 62, and fan on auto. anyway, thank you for mentioning that the honeywell module has a metal cover, which must be missing on this particular furnace.

it's a HEIL NULK075AG02 serial H611 33891. just thought, maybe the honeywell number i need is on the missing cover. anyway. the furnace may have started out LP, but is running on NG, now.

so, which honeywell part do i need? also, when i bought the inducer fan assembly last year, they gave me what i thought was a flame sensor, that i took back because i couldn't see how to install it. current one has fittings pointing up, and their replacement had horizontal which would have required bending something. force-fitting is usually an indication of a wrong choice, i find. thanks for your help

On 2017-11-10 by Dennis - thermocouple for Heil-Quaker Gas furnace

@Dennis

See THERMOCOUPLE REPAIR / REPLACEMENT - you'll find that thermocouples are a standard, generic part, easy to locate and replace.

On 2017-11-10 by Dennis - need thermocouple for Heil-Quaker furnace

How do I find out what the proper part is? It's a 30 year old Heil-Quaker furnace and searches don't come up with compatible parts. I don't know if there is a standard for forced air gas furnaces.

Stan in the long list of FAN LIMIT SWITCH articles at the end of this page be sure to check

FAN LIMIT CONTROL SETTINGS

as that gives the right fan ON OFF and LIMIT settings as well as warning you about how easy it is to bend and damage the control - leaving it out of calibration and also unsafe.

The blower shouldn't be turning on until the ON number has been reached.

On 2017-03-17 by stan

i got a heil furance with a limit control i set the dial settings at 100 second one at 140 the problem is when the flame starts before the fan on hits the the 140 setting the blower is all ready running at about 140 the flame turns off blower turns off at about 100

On 2016-12-28 by (mod) - contact Heil Environmental Corporate Office

Rob: provided the thermal sensor is of proper dimension that'll probably work. I would give Heil a call to confirm what replacements they agree are safe.

I have a HEIL furnace that uses an R02I005 2 speed fan-limit switch, comparable to Honeywell L6064 fan-limit switch.

Both have been discontinued, can I replace it with a single speed fan-limit switch such as the Honeywell L4064B2236?

On 2016-11-20 by Luke H

My Heil Lincoln series fuel oil furnace recently started short cycling. The burner would kick in run for less than a minute, then kick back off.

The blower wouldn't run until 20 seconds after the burner shut off. I eventually traced the problem back to the thermostat, a Honeywell T87F. The anticipator must have developed a short and wouldn't respond to any adjustments I made. Replaced it with a programmable Lux t-stat with an adjustable deadband (swing). Your website made troubleshooting this problem go very fast. Thanks!
