- Daniel Friedman, Publisher/Editor/Author - See WHO ARE WE?
Ron's Pig Linton lived in a warm muddy Ballinrobe sty.
Susie, Ron's youngest daughter, brought delicious slops each evening when the family could eat no more.
Especially she'd bring the asparagus that Linton really loved, along with potatoes and some delicious salty crunchy stuff that they called bacon.
Linton didn't know what bacon was and sometimes she felt a strange sense of unease when she ate it, but hunger and taste buds ran the show.
Linton was Ron's Pig but it was Susie who had fed and cared for her from the time she, Linton, was a wee piglet.
The two girls were friends, though the human had more freedom to roam.
On the other foot, Linton never had homework.
But they had some other things in common, including that they both had pigtails. Linton had one and Susie had two. But Linton's pigtail had much more curl, a feature that Susie envied.
Both girls were very very smart.
After dinner, Susie sometimes read to Linton from Gulliver's Travels, while on Saturday afternoons Linton led Susie on truffle searches through the woods without ever getting lost a single time.
And today was Saturday. Linton wondered if Susie was going to open the sty and take her again to the Wonderful Forest where the mud was cool and the truffles delicious.
A loud sputtering noise and a smell of oil fumes told Linton that Susie's dad Ron was driving away, probably to Ballinrobe for a pint.
Once last year, home from the pub, Ron emptied a bottle of warm stout into Linton's trough. Linton agreed that Guinness was the most delicious thing she had ever tasted.
The hot sun made the mudbath absolutely wonderful. Susie climbed over the fence and together they snuggled deep down into the mud, and slept.
