This study was constructed as a second-floor addition over a garage for homeowners in Dutchess County, New York. A ten-foot cathedral ceiling adds height and spaciousness while generous use of windows assured that the room feels open and spacious while also permitting useful solar gain during winter months.
Walls on two sides of the structure are cantilevered and angled to add interest to the design and to prevent a "boxy" feel to the addition, as you can see in our page top photo that gives an outside view of this same structure.
We provide turn-key construction services including all phases of design and build. For clients who wish a more extensive involvement in their project, we also encourage active client participation in all phases of the construction project. For this project the clients made their own custom choice and layout of the beautiful hickory flooring shown in our photo.
A standing seam metal roof installation is shown here on a simple shed-roof design that we installed for clients who did not want to face future roofing replacement during the life of their building. We like this roof material over foam-insulated structures where a cathedral ceiling affords maximum interior space.
We have extensive experience with all types of residential roofing materials.
Other Projects
Additions
Completed 2010, we were able to start this project before all of the snow was gone.
Ceramic tile, custom installation
Completed in 2009.
Chimney repairs
Stains on a chimney are more than an aesthetic concern. The chimney must not leak and has to have a safe, functional internal flue. Part of the job included applying a stone veneer to the original masonry block chimney.
Custom Framing & Design
Completed in 2009., the curved roof framing for this studio was a satisfying challenge.
Foundations & Slabs
Completed 2009, during construction we protected this masonry project from the weather.
Framing
Completed 2010, steep roof framing.
Garages & Garage Additions
Here we were nearing completion of a free-standing garage/storage building.
Insulation & Insulation Retrofits
Shown before our floor insulation project was complete, this room needed a cure for a cold floor over an open crawl space. The original home, built in 1920, was expanded several times, including this sunroom that was originally a screened porch.
Interior stairs, rails, guardrail construction
Completed in 2010.
Roofing Expertise includes Asphalt, EPDM, Slate, Metal Roofing Installation & Repair
Completed in 2009., the curved roof framing for this studio was a satisfying challenge.
Special Construction Projects
I learned from my dad to work on every job to do my absolute best. There are no "special projects in the sense that one would leave someone else with less care and attention than merited. But indeed some of our projects involve unusual situations.
