Questions & answers about diagnosing problems with water pressure:
These FAQs help diagnose the reason that a water pump or well pump won't start, won't stop, or cycles on and off too often.
This article series provides a series of 3 tables giving step by step checklist for diagnosing water pressure, water pump, and water well problems. We give diagnostic and repair procedures for both municipal water supply problems and well water supply problems.

On 2019-01-24 by (mod) - gurgling sound near the end of the pump cycle
My guess is that if you're hearing a gurgling sound near the end of the pump cycle and before you reach the cut-off pressure your water supply in the well is low or you have a poor well flow rate.
There could also be a leak in well piping below the water level that gets exposed as the water level in the well bore gets bumped down. That could be putting air into your system.

Pressure gauge will only pump up to 40 then you can hear gurgling . I have replaced new pump, gauge , and points switch and it still doesn’t work.?????
On 2018-11-18 by (mod) - pump shuts off at "wrong pressure" - where to start
Have you checked the pressure with an independent gauge?

I replaced my 40-60 psi pressure switch. pressurized the tank to 38 psi. Pump runs to 38 psi and shuts off. what the heck?
On 2018-09-23 by (mod) - sudden low pressure at pressure system pumps
Tech
If you can do so safely (without being shocked or killed) you'd check the supply voltage level to the pumps, then check the pumps themselves for a damaged impeller or motor.

I’m working condominium maintenance .there condo four blocks only.all blocks rooftop her two pressure pumps just .
Last years November all blocks rooftop pressure pumps one damage and c and d block Multics pumps very low pressure why suddenly would it problem ?
On 2018-09-15 by (mod) - signs of running out of water or overheating well pump motor
Two common explanations are
a well with a very poor flow rate that is running out of water and then recovering over time when you stop drawing water,
or
a pump that's overheating and shutting off.

We live in a home out in the country with an underground well. Two nights ago water quit while in shower.
No water anywhere. 36 hours later I just checked faucet and had water with great pressure. Now 24 hrs later no water. What’s the problem? Braker not tripped. Also our water spits at times

it sounds like you want to check out the advice

My pump is a house pump. Metabo. It's connected to my water tanks. It goes in short intermittent burst when I turn on the tap. What can I do to fix it
On 2018-09-02 by (mod) -
Is the white air bubbles ? if so it'd eventually go away if you fill a water glass and let it sit for 10 minutes or longer.
If not I suggest having a water test performed to identify what's in the water supply.
If your pump shuts down your well may be running dry.

water is always white and stayes white and everytime i wash the pump shuts off its a well
On 2018-08-21 by (mod) - water will stop after a few minutes and start after a few minutes and run quite a while.
Mike see this article
on INTERMITTENT LOSS OF WATER PRESSURE https://inspectapedia.com/water/Water_Pressure_Comes_Goes.php
To look at some diagnostics for the problem that you describe that is water pressure that seems to come and go at odd times.

My water will stop after a few minutes and start after a few minutes and run quite a while. This happens each time. My tank has air, is not heavy so I don,t think it is waterlogged. How do I sign is and repair so as not to have interruptions in the water?

As we wrote by email this sounds like a leaky foot valve or check valve.

100ft deep well - submersable 1/2hp pump - 20/40 pressure switch.
When our water stopped running originally, I checked the pressure switch{ 20-40) and found that earth worm had commited suicide across the contacts.
Also noticed that the presure guage had a small amount rust inside and out. I immediately replaced both, and nothing.
I came upon your site while researching the possible problem.
Following your various diagnosis and FAQ's, I have repaired a couple leaky pipes, checked for clogged tubes and tightened the fixture on the bottom of my pressure tank (which had to be pulled out of the mud btw) and had to add air to bring it up to the 18psi cut-off.
I checked and made sure that my wiring was correcct and that the pump (submersible) was recieving power, How this system was ever working before I'll never know. Still nothing, which lead to pulling the pump . Had to buy a new one but chose a 3/4hp instead and changed switch to a 30-50.
after these were installed, I searched and found a small leak right outside the well casing. Nothing... searched further and needed to readjust the pitless valve because a friend helped install the pump and didn't have the valve lined up. All this being said, when I try to get things going here's what happens.
To get any pressure at all I have to back fill water from an outside source throughan outside spout.
This brings tank Pressure up to the cut-off 28psi but no higher. As soon as I turn off the outside spout, and open a faucet in the house, pressure will start to fall thus making the switch come on. The switch contacts will stay together while all pressure will slowly lower until it reaches the low pressure protection pressure of 20psi, the the switch kicks off.
I have checked and found that when the switch truns on, the wiring at the well to the pump will jump. I have even used a multi meter to make sure that the pump was still getting power. I'm ready to give up. What am I missing?

Perhaps your pump was not adequately primed, or there's a leak in well piping, or the well is out of water. Let the well rest and try again.

I replaced busted pipe and actually got the water pumping without the pump getting hot actually cooled the pump off (never got over 10 lbs pressure) and then it started getting hot again which means it was not pumping water.
I tried opening different things to let the water Pockets move on through the more I tried the worse it got. I have a shut off from the water tank to the house by the well so that open that or leave it closed while it builds up pressure which I don't I tried both and it's just not building up pressure

This sounds as if the well is running out of water, or a check valve is sticking shut (unlikely).

Just replaced the pump control and the pressure switch. Ran great for a few hours then all of the sudden.. nothing . I manually turned the pressure switch on but when it builds up to 30psi i can still hear the pump running but the pressure does not rise if i sit there long enough it will get a spurt of water and go up to 35 psi then stop but the pump still is running . Any clue on what might be going on?

What you describe is odd since usually surging water pressure is traced to a pump control or pressure tank problem that would affect the whole building.
However it's possible, depending on piping sizes, lengths, location of the surging fixture compared with other fixtures, that the problem could still be due to a short cycling well pump due to a waterlogged pressure tank.
Use an accomplice and two cellphones: let me know if while you see the pressure surging at your back bathroom the surge is related to the pump switching on and off- observed by the second person.

Surging water pressure in my bathroom in the back of house, main bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room all normal what's wrong?
Our well was redone last spring, our control box replaced last winter. Could it be just a shower head

Watch out: I'm nervous that someone could be shocked or killed - if the pump wiring is shorted, for example. I hope you called an electrician.

Had water pressure, I unplugged pump, blew a fuse ...reset ...elect is back on but now pump won't pump water to the house....
What should I be doing to get it working again???
