On 2018-07-18 by Sam - White Rodgers 1F80-261 settings for summer weather

I have a programmable thermostat, White Rodgers 1F80-261. Researching what temperature to set the thermostat in summer, it has recommended the following:

"Normal cooling settings are 75 degrees - 80 degrees. Normal heating settings are 68 - 72 degrees.

You should always set your thermostat to the highest possible setting that is comfortable for you in the summer, and the lowest setting in the winter".

Could you explain the rationale for setting the thermostat to the highest possible setting when the room temperature is already hot in summer? Wouldn't this make the room increasingly hot?

Currently, I have a gas furnace but no air-conditioning for the house.

Good question, Sam

What the instruction writers intended to say was that you can minimize your cooling cost by not setting the indoor temperature to a lower number than that at which you'll be comfortable.

Thermostat turned on, zone valve opens. Thermostat turned off, valve does not close. Manually opens closes and motor finishes the wheel turning. White-rodgers zone valve

I changed the batteries in my White Rodgers thermostat.

No display appears. The fan runs but there is no heat cool. Help! It's cold outside!

On 2017-10-29 Check that the White Rodgers thermostat batteries are good and facing the right way

Deanna you want to check that the batteries are good and that you placed the + and - marked-terminals of the batteries facing the right way, matching the +/- terminals in the thermostat

I had to change the batteries of my White Rodgers 1F80-0471 thermostat. I pulled the unit off the wall, changed the batteries and put the unit back on the wall. Didn't realize the battery door is on top and didn't need to pull the whole unit off.

Now, my fan won't stop running. I shut off the A/C switch in the breaker box, also shut off the furnace switch. Still running. I went into my utility room and had to switch the main furnace switch off to get the fan to stop. How can I fix this?

Yep I've done that too.

Chances are in wiggling the thermostat around you accidentally shorted two wires together. Unfortunately that means it's time to call it off and look again with Care at the wiring

Question: Replaced a White-Rodgers hot water relay with a Honeywell 8124 - no power at C1 C2 (circulator circuit)

(Jan 6, 2016) Wayne said:
Replaced a White-Rodgers hot water relay with a Honeywell 8124 because I had no power across C1 and C2 and suspected the relay was bad. I still have no power across C1 and C2. I have four H/W radiation zones, one circulator pump for the entire house. Can you advise?

Reply:

Wow that's too bad. You replaced the entire control, so the problem is likely to be outside the control, in the power circuit to the control, to the circulator, or at the thermostat.

Try eliminating the thermostat from the equation by removing its wires and jumping the two TT connections right at the control. That should turn on the circulator. If it does the problem is in the thermostat or its wires.

The existing 24VAC transformer used by your boiler for the existing thermostat may be sufficient.

I am trying to wire 2 white Rodgers zone valves ( 1361-104) that are currently not wired. The thermostat is wired directly to the boiler ( mini therm 2 jvt125n) not sure if I need an external transformer to power them... Any help will be highly appreciated

You may be able to use a Honeywell fan limit switch if it is of proper dimensions, particularly it has to fit in the location of the old one and its probe has to extend properly into the plenum;

I have an old warm air furnace that uses White-Rodgers Type 5A75-5 Style V2QP1Y Fan and Limit controller.

This model is discontinued and I cannot find them anywhere. Is there a direct replacement either from White-Rodgers are from any other major brand?

I have a four zone heating system with White Rodgers 1311 zone valves. Recently had a water pump failur. Heating system and all radiators have been bled after water was repaired. Now one zone valve will not open when heat is called for.

If I start the "wheel" manually it will spin all the way around, open and then closed again so the zone won't heat up. Could there be debris in the zone valve? Is there a way to clean it, or keep it open manually as a stop-gap?

Question: Rodgers m150 thermostat heat cycling on and off when it should not

(Dec 6, 2014) dave said:

just got a new white Rodgers m150 thermostat and the furnace states a .75 anticipator heat setting so we set it at that and it comes on and off 3 times more now with this thermostat
so we set it to the high setting that it has of 1.2 and it still cycles way more than the old one ?

at HEAT ANTICIPATOR OPERATION

Reply:

Dave let's see if we can figure out why the thermostat is cycling heat more often: here are some things to check

- possible cold draft - e.g. through the wall

- loose wire or connection in the tt circuit is shorting

- colder weather conditions

- a service issue with the furnace

- a defective thermostat

- something else we've not considered

If you have the old TT and can reinstall it, if that behaves the same way as the new one (frequent cycling) then the issue is not in the thermostat itself
