how far away from a exiting pressure tank can you install a booster pump? and witch system to install.

James
In the ARTICLE INDEX near the end of this article you will see our material on water pressure booster pumps and that's a good place to start.
Watch out: Sun booster pump installations might not work well when there is a conventional pressure tank floated on the system since the pump design expects there to be no pressure tank or no more of a pressure Reservoir than the tiny one incorporated into the pump itself.

My rate of flow is good and the pressure switch works fine (30 to 50 lbs) I have a rather shallow deep well, only 70 feet deep but pumps sits in 14 feet of water.
I have never been short of water which I am thankful for.
My son in law moved to a home that is on a deep well such as mine. His water pressure is so much better than mine. Wondering if there is a method or possibility to increase my rate of flow (pressure)?
When well was first drilled the well was testede with 200 GPM flow for 6 hours and never slowed down.
On 2017-07-21 by (mod) - difference between water quantity and water pressure
Jim
Water quantity is what the well can deliver over time or per minute for a sustained period.
Water pressure depends on the pump type and its capacity and on the pressure control switch settings. You could set your switch up to a higher pressure.
The relation is that if you pump faster you may exhaust a well - depending on its flow rate.
But if your well flowed at the fantastic rate of 200 gpm you certainly can put a 5-10 gpm pump on the well and use a higher horsepower pump that can pump to higher pressure. Just keep your pressure range below a max of 70 psi it is lest you have leaks or burst a pipe.

The water stopped working in my house. The pump comes on but it's just not building pressure.

Julie,
If you mean that the pump is delivering water but is not reaching the cut-off pressure, then I suspect a damaged pump impeller, or low water in the well, or a leak and well piping.
If you mean that the pump runs but no water is being delivered, then please use the search box or see the ARTICLE INDEX to search for and read our article titled
NO WATER PRESSURE

selling my house so I had to preform a flow test. Got 3 gal. Per min for 1&3/4 hrs. Last 15 min it dropped down to 1 gal per min. Now one day later it is still running slow at the low rate stated above. Is the problem in the well pump or in the tank?

Paul I can't know from just a brief e-text just what's happening with your system.
But here are some possibilities:
1. the long flow test brought up dirt or debris that are clogging a foot valve intake screen, pump impeller, water pipe, valve, water filter, etc.
2. the flow test exhausted a portion of the water reservoir around the well - a condition that usually recovers in 24 hours but could take longer.
3. If the pump were run "dry" there is risk that the impeller was damaged.
