VINYL SIDING DEFORMED by SUNLIGHT
On 2018-08-19 by CBS
A licensed contractor installed siding to my home in Michigan in March 5 months ago when it was cold and snowy.
They saw this damage is from sun reflecting from my neighbor's window and will not cover or replace the damage.
They knew how close my neighbor's house was and what kind of window they have. I asked about longevity and durability before closing the company and was assured it would do well in my location.
Now they refuse to cover it and call this common. If this is common they should have disclosed this and why aren't all the houses warped on the east side in my neighborhood?
On 2018-07-29 by (mod) - horizontal bulges in vinyl siding when heated by sunlight
Do the panels move freely when heated by the sun and buckled?
If not then nailing was almost certainly the problem.
Nails can be too tight,
siding can be horizontally constrained by having been cut a bit too long, abutting vertical trim or J-channel
and rarely, siding can be vertically constrained

Vinyl siding installed in July 2017 buckles horizontally at the center of each panel as soon as the sun hits each day. At the end of each day, the panels flatten back down (although not all the way).
This started in April, 2018. The installers claim it is not a nailing issue as the panels move freely back and forth. What could cause this?
On 2018-03-30 by (mod) - Siding doesn't stay clipped together
Gary I suspect the siding was hung improperly in the first place.
Working up from the bottom starter course each next course is installed such that its bottom edge clips to the top lip of the course below, held in place, and nailed.
If the workers nailed successive siding courses a bit too loosely, without fully clipping to the course below, siding will indeed be un-clipped, and a mess.
Watch out: such siding is at extra risk of wind damage and blowing off the building.
Unfortunately the repair is probably to remove and re-hang the siding correctly.
Before taking that step
Inspect the siding clipping edges to be sure they're not damaged
Check that the re-clip operation is being done properly and securely. A half-re-clipped siding course will pop off unnecessarily.
On 2018-03-30 by Gary - siding won't stay clipped
Vinyl siding will not stay "clipped" (locked in correct position) at many places on all sides of our house.
This gives a shoddy appearance of curved, bowed out areas; when I push these unfastened strips back into position, they eventually become loose again, to the curved, bowed out position.

I used Sherwin Williams "vinyl safe" Super Paint on my garage siding all sides warped the next day except the north side.
I even did the east side and south side in the evening: I had to get my work light to finish in the dark! So, what can I do now? The refund plus free paint they offered me does not correct property damage.
On 2016-07-21 by (mod) - Why does my new vinyl siding give the appearance of being buckled/bumpy
Cyndi:
Perhaps when heated by the sun the siding is expanding and is too-tighty nailed, causing buckling.

Why does my new vinyl siding give the appearance of being buckled/bumpy in the bright sunlight but looks fine in other lighting?

Received, under discussion. If/when you agree I can also post images here for comment.

I just sent you an email with pictures of the warped siding. Would appreciate your thoughts.
I'll send a few photos. Thanks
On 2016-06-22 by (mod) - buckling vinyl siding after being painted
Schmity
Possible causes that occur to me and that are related to painting include:
- incompatible paint partly dissolving vinyl - this effect will probably be uniform
- darker color absorbs more sunlight - this effect will be worst in siding areas of most sun

The vinyl siding is about 40 yes old. The house was painted 3 yrs ago a dark brown. We never had buckling before it was painted.
The original color was faded light blue. The buckling is only on the east side and only where the deck boards are perpendicular to the house. The deck is 8 feet high no bucking on the siding below the deck.
The only thing I see is the the difference in the direction of the deck boards. The worst siding is about 2 feet from the first row. The rest of the siding beyond and away from the deck is fine. I'm positive it has to do with the reflection of the suns energy on the long perpendicular boards.
I was going to replace the warped siding, paint them and put some sort of outdoor rug on the deck to absorb the heat energy and see what happens. Hope this helps
On 2016-06-21 0 by (mod) - The wood deck that is perpendicular to the house has vinyl siding warping
I'm confused Schmitty. Wood deck vs vinyl warping? What vinyl? Siding?
If your vinyl siding is buckling or warped, it's most likely one of the reasons above: improper nailing, or jamming pieces in too tightly between vertical abutting trim.
I suppose if a deck jammed up against vinyl siding at the house that might damage one course of siding but it shouldn't explain buckling in other wall areas.

I have an 'L' shape deck that faces east. The wood deck that is parallel to the house is ok
The wood deck that is perpendicular to the house has vinyl siding warping. How do I prevent the siding from warping. I thought of some kind don't of outdoor covering of some sort. The siding was painted a couple years ago dark brow. Any ideas?
