On 2018-11-25 by (mod) - identifying CCMTA Fiber Cement or Asbestos Cement corrugated products

Andy I see why you ask.
Searching for CCMNTA leaves us drowned in information about the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) .

I don't know the product in your photo and am doing some more research.

It would help to know what we're looking at.

Is this fiber cement corrugated roofing?

In what country and city?

What is the building age?

Do we know the roof age?

Meanwhile, knowing nothing else about your material I would err on the side of caution and treat it as PACM - presumed asbestos containing material (or have a sample tested).

The CMNT "A" could suggest that it's a cementious product with "A" - asbestos. BUt in truth we don't know.

Do you have any idea if this is asbestos or cement many thanks, as far as I can tell it says

Could a mobile home manufactured in 1978 have a corrugated asbestos cement roof?

On 2014-11-28 by (mod) -

Robert

Your options are increased air circulation and ventilation, adding heat to the area, and looking for moisture sources that can be fixed such as leaks, puddles, a poor-draining garage floor.

I would not add insulation unless you use closed-cell foam that won't pick up water.

Principally, minimizing dust creation by how the material is handled is key. Variables include local regulations that apply in demolishing asbestos-containing materials outoors, debris disposal, etc.

I have a corrugated asbestos garage roof erected in 1960's which is now deteriorating ,what precaution are required in replacing the roof?

On 2014-04-04 by (mod) -

I doubt it Michael. A roof ought not to be leaking water into the interior at all; first be sure that it's not an indoor condensation issue (which seems unlikely for a garage).

On 2014-04-04 by Michael

We have installed a fibrous cement roof but it looks like it is absorbing water & looks as if damp is ingressing the garage. Is this normal?

On 2014-03-12 by Anonymous

Depends on nature and extent of damage. On a clean, dry crack I'd try geocel or similar sealant. Or cut and patch as in slate roofing.

Re-Posting a comment from U.K. reader:

2/8/14 Some good points in this article. As a UK based asbestos roofing specialist surveyor, it's important to know that most injuries and deaths associated with asbestos cement roofs are related to falls through the roof panels.

Fiber release from asbestos roofs is minimal unless it's disturbed by drilling or scraping.

My dedicated asbestos roofing site contains more information about the repair and refurbishment of corrugated asbestos roof panels at asbestosroofig co uk

Thanks for the comments, David, we welcome hearing from our U.K. readers. I'll review your website and find a location to include the link. Our security software does not permit links posted in comments. Your link refers to a company selling asbestos roofing services.

WATCH OUT: I think we need to know more about your company's asbestos roof cleaning proposal as a treatment option.

As we report in these pages, there have been serious asbestos fiber release and contamination issues arising from cleaning operations (like power washing) a fiber cement or asbestos-cement roof.

The washwater itself is asbestos-contaminated and as that water dries asbestos particles are easily airborne.

Keep in mind that in addition to asbestos fibers, ultra-fine asbestos particles were used as fillers in many asbestos cement products, increasing the particle hazard.

Coating or roofing over an asbestos based roof most likely minimizes the disturbance hazard.
