If you are confident that the flooring was manufactured after 1985 there is little chance that it contains asbestos.

I wonder if you could please be of help. I have Armstrong Place 'n Press vinyl tiles in my kitchen which were laid in the mid 1980s. I am wondering whether or not they contain asbestos.

If you're able to install another layer of flooring on top of a floor that show that should be the end of the question.

I’m trying to determine if the tile underneath another vinyl tile contains asbestos. Condo built in 1984. I’m planning on putting LVP over it all If I can.

I don't know for a fact, but I would treat the flooring that you described as presumed to contain asbestos.

In this case in which we cannot relate the floor tiles to any data about a building history, I'm afraid we are stuck

Thanks for your response. I guess its back to square one (no pun intended).
On 2018-09-07 by (mod) - extra self-stick tiles with a universal bar code on the backing.
Tom I've seen this peel and stick flooring advertised as new and for sale on eBay and by other vendors but no one provided its year of manufacture or even the manufacturer's name.
I tried looking up the UPC with no success.
UPC codes have been used in the United States since 1974, so we can't use the presence of the code on your tile as an assurance that it was made after manufacturers stopped using asbestos in flooring.

Here are front and back photos.
I have some extra self-stick tiles with a universal bar code on the backing. Would asbestos containing tiles have a UBC on them?

I don't know that tile pattern. Assuming the home was built in the U.S. or Canada, by 1984 there were still a few asbestos-containing floor tiles and sheet flooring products on the market - but few.

Was wondering if anyone could help me ID these tiles and let me know if they contain any asbestos? All I know is that the house was built in 1984 and these were the original tiles. I'm currently sleeping in a room where a few of these are broken and would appreciate any help.

Sorry, no. See our general advice in this article series.
BTW this doesn't look like a peel and stick floor.
Watch out: asphalt-based mastic adhesive may also contain asbestos - search InspectApedia.com for that phrase.

Here is a picture of the underside of the laminate tile.
We bought our house about a year and a half ago. While pulling up some of the carpet in one of the upstairs rooms, we found that there were tiles on top of hard wood. We really want the hard wood floors, but we are cautious about the tiles. Measuring them, they are 12x12 tiles with a black underside.
They look like peel and stick laminate tiles. The house was built in 46, but the carpet is only about 3 years old or so. Do you know if this particular model has asbestos in it?
