Perhaps I've misunderstood but you want to use a 106,000 BTUh capacity connector to supply fuel to a 79,000 BTUh kitchen gas range.

That says to me that the connector is more than adequate. There is not a shred of advantage of going to a longer than necessary connector and in fact doing so can cause installation fit and even subtle safety hazards.

Use a connector that's long enough to safely install the appliance but not one of unnecessary length - that extra length can cause unnecessary bends or crimps that could damage the connector, risking a gas leak, fire, or explosion.

A connector that has the *capacity* to deliver more gas than the appliance needs is *not* a problem and won't hurt a thing. It isn't going to "force-feed" gas to your new range. It's getting the gas *pressure* correct that's important in this case. The pressure will be set by your gas supply regulator and by the appliance's own gas regulator.

The new kitchen range i’m Installing has a total btu rating of 79,000 BTU.

The new connector is gold 5/8 OD x 48in @ 106,000 BTU, according to the connector chart a 60 inch connector is closer to the BTU rating of the range however I cannot locate a 60 inch locally. Is there a problem with using the 48in @
106,000 BTU?

Are there any flexible connectors which are safer than others? I was reading about CSST and its vulnerability to lightning strikes, which made me wonder about the flexible connector to the appliance itself.

I’ll be having natural gas installed in my home soon. After reading about CSST, I’ll tell my installer not to use it. Better safe than sorry. Besides, the distance from the meter to the appliances isn’t far anyway, so saving on labor costs is insignificant. I’ll ensure the gas line gets properly grounded as well.

Sorry Santie, I don't know what you're connecting, what gas (LPG?), what appliance or device, nor why there would be two connectors on an LP cylinder.

For example in North America a gas grille or BBQ uses a 3/8" flared female fitting on the appliance hose end and a standard propane tank fitting (reverse thread) on the bottle end.

Sorry Danny I don't quite understand the question. If you mean that you want to use a flare adapter at the gas fire log set and that you want to use simple non-flexible copper tubing as the piping to that installation, I think you'll see that violates the manufacturer's installation instructions. A concern is that jiggling around the log set during operation may cause a gas leak.

Watch out: IMO it's improper, and unsafe: I would be pretty nervous about using a gas shutoff valve mounted on a flexible gas connector piping - concerns would include ease of operation of the valve and also extra movement of the flexible line that might invite a leak.

The 3/8 flex connector I have has a pipe to flare connection. At the flare connection to hook up logs can I interchange the adapter at logs to a flare brass to hook up at the logs.

Debbie I don't know and haven't seen that detail. The final OK or authority is with your local building inspector.

What did she say? My OPINION is that if both sides of the cabinet leave the flex connector in plain view then it should be ok in that the risk of some idiot driving an nail through an un-seen gas line should be low.
