Wiring diagrams and service/installation manuals for Sears Roebuck or Kenmore HVAC equipment are listed below.
We think that the reason for a range of serial number and age encodings, some ambiguous, among Sears Roebuck or Kenmore heating equipment is that the company purchased heating equipment from a range of OEM manufacturers.
Photo: data tag for a Sears Roebuck & Co. natural gas fired boiler model 867 adapted from an image submitted by an InspectApedia.com reader.
We have found at least six different formats for the serial number encoding on Sears Roebuck & Kenmore boilers and furnaces. We describe these below.
Data Tags on some Sears gas fired boilers do not explicitly include the word "Serial No." or S/N but the serial number is stamped into the data tag to the right of the model number.
MODEL NO. MMM YYWW ANN
Where MMM = model numbrer
YY = two digit year
WW = two digit week [certain if the WW is greater than 12]
ANN = Sub-Model Number may indicate the actual boiler manufacturer
Note that some Sears heaters reverse the YY and WW to write it as WWYY in the first four numeric digits after the MMM Model Number.
In a six-digit all numeric serial number only the year of manufacture may be encoded in the first digit
Ynnnnnn where Y = a single digit year within an un-specified decade from 1940 - 1970; to accurately estimate the age of this equipment you will need to find additional data such as the age of the building or of surrounding equipment.
Example: 7938965 may be 1947 1957 1967 or 1977.
HYWWnnnnn where H indicates the decade of the 1980s, Y = a single year within that decade, WW is the week in that year and nnnnn is a unique serial number code
Example H7059386 = Y = 7 of the 1980s = 1987 and WW= Week 05 and 9386 is a 5-digit unique serial number for equipment made during that year and week
or alternatively when there is no preceding alphabetic character:
YYMMnnnnn where YY = year and MM = month
Find the serial number written as a single alphabetic letter followed by 9 numeric digits that begin with digits for YY and WW
XYYMMnnnnn Example: M94059386 YY = 94 (1994) and WW = Week 05 and nnnnn is a 5-digit unique serial number for equipment made during that year and week
Find Sears boiler age in an all numeric 9-digit serial number written as all numeric digits or 9 digits followed by a single letter
WWYYnnnnnx WW = Week YY = year probably in the decade 1980-1990 but varying by some manufacturers
Note: the above are guides for decoding the serial number to get the age of a Sears & Roebuck or Kenmore air conditioner, heating boiler, or heating furnace.

Hello, If possible, looking for manual for Sears Boiler model 229-962251 S#CID511,
Thanks for any help!
This Q&A were posted originally at AGE of HEATERS, BOILERS, FURNACES
As this is a gas fired heating boiler, not a domestic hot water heater, I should have referred you to our Sears heating equipmet data tag decoding information at
SEARS / KENMORE HVAC AGE MANUALS & PARTS
Your data tag gives Serial No CID511.
I'm having trouble mapping this to the Sears boiler age decoding keys we already listed.
What do we know about the country and city of location of your boiler and of the age of the building where it was installed, and finally, whether or not you think this is original equipment in your building?

Rick,
Above on this page we find
MANUALS & PARTS GUIDES - HVAC Brands P-S - Brand Names beginning with P - S HVAC manuals, wiring diagrams, installation and repair guides
On that page we find in the list of boiler manufacturers in the P-S range
SEARS / KENMORE HVAC Manuals & Parts
And there, we have several Sears heating equipment decoding formats, probably because Sears actually purchased boilers from a range of manufacturers.
Your Sears Roebuck and Co data tag is in format that doesn't explicitly say "Serial No" or "S/N" but the format is apparent as we have
MODEL NO. 867 in print
followed by
6323
space
H60
Excerpting from that link we have
MODEL NO. MMM YYWW ANN
Where MMM = model numbrer
YY = two digit year
WW = two digit week [certain if the WW is greater than 12]
ANN = Sub-Model Number may indicate the actual boiler manufacturer
Note that some Sears heaters reverse the YY and WW to write it as WWYY in the first four numeric digits after the MMM Model Number.
Leading me to guess that your boiler was made in 1963 in week 23.
NEXT we apply a sanity check by asking
- what are the country and city where this heater is located?
- what is the age of the home?
- are there age identifying notes or data tags on surrounding equipment
By the way we could have gotten to that SEARS link also by searching InspectApedia.com using the on page search box to find

I have a Homart gas floor furnace with model no. 133-6350. I am trying to find a copy of an owner's manual or the date of manufacture. I found a building permit for it, but it is hard to read. Thanks for your help.
Diego
Homart gas furnaces were a Sears & Roebuck brand manufactured by Dornback Hardware & Plumbing for Sears and distributed about three decades beginning in the 1940's.
See SEARS / KENMORE HVAC AGE MANUALS & PARTS
I"m doubtful you'd find manuals or parts from the present Dornback Furnace Co. as furnacecompare [dot] com and other sources point out that the Dornback brand was purchased by Adams Mfg. in 1992 - that brand continues but in essence it's a newer product line.
You may be able to obtain a manual as well as parts from Sears Direct parts supply at searspartsdirect.com - or give Sears Parts Direct a call at 1-800-252-1698
Need a circuit board for a Homart electric furnace part # R43800R6 where can i find one - Wade 10/11/12
Wade, you can obtain Homart heater parts from Sears Parts Direct.

Thank you for your comment. I did try Dornback and Sears Parts Direct regarding the owner's manual, but they were not able to help. Do you have any thoughts on deciphering the model no. to determine date of manufacture? Thanks, Diego
