National Directory of Mold & Indoor Air Quality Building Inspection & Test Consultants
Below is a directory of experts whom can be consulted for "sick house" or other building air quality, mold, mildew, dampness, odors, toxic gases, chemical exposure, or similar complaints, experts may perform a Phase I visual
inspection expanded by actual bulk surface and air sampling combined with microscopic examination, and case histories to identify possible concerns. A separate directory of companies providing mold cleanup or mold remediation can be found at MOLD CLEANUP COMPANIES.
Watch out: First, should we be testing for mold at all? If you see mold on indoor surfaces, NO mold testing is needed to confirm that mold is present in a this building and that cleanup is needed. But if a large remediation project is planned, tests may be needed for project control - see When to identify mold?.
Before hiring any onsite test or investigation expert for a field investigation, inspection, or testing, be sure to review MOLD EXPERT, WHEN TO HIRE. Also, to avoid a conflict of interest we recommend that mold inspection, testing, or post-cleanup inspection and testing should be performed by an expert who has absolutely no financial or business relationship with the mold cleanup or mold remediation company.
A
purpose onsite building environmental inspections and air and bulk sampling is to identify possible irritants/bioaerosols: mold, mildew, pet dander, pollen, or other material which can cause respiratory
distress or other complaints and in some cases serious illness. Consult with your physician for evaluation, treatment, and advice. If you are a qualified expert or service or product provider in this field you may be listed at this website at no fee - see LINK EXCHANGE INSTRUCTIONS.

http://www.betterhealthusa.com/public/282.cfm - Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients
The critique included in that article raises compelling questions about IgG testing assays, which prompts our interest in actually screening for the presence of high levels of particles that could carry allergens - dog dander or cat dander in the case at hand.
http://www.tldp.com/issue/174/IgG%20Food%20Allergy.html contains similar criticism in another venue but interestingly by the same author, Sheryl Miller. She is also the Laboratory Director of the Bastyr Natural Health Clinic Laboratory.

OTHER IAQ ISSUES: How To Find and Address Other Indoor Air or Indoor Environment Contaminants Besides Mold
Mold or allergens may not be the only or even the main indoor environmental contaminant. Don't let media attention to mold
cause so much enviro-scare fear that other, possibly more urgent hazards go un-addressed.
Ozone Warnings - Use of Ozone as a "mold"
remedy is ineffective and may be dangerous.
Pet control - if you can't say goodbye to your bird, cat, dog, guinea pig, hamster, tropical fish, then limit the
areas they occupy and limit the airflow from that area to sleeping or other areas of the building, use allergenic
bedding, eliminate wall-to-wall carpeting, improve housecleaning including use of a HEPA-rated vacuum cleaner. For more details
see our article Dog, Cat, and Other Animal Dander - Information for Asthmatics and Indoor Air Quality
Rodents, Mice, Squirrel Control - I find high levels of mouse and rodent dander, fecal dust, and urine-contaminated dust in some buildings,
and high levels of these materials in building insulation in those locations. If you have a mouse problem, particularly if mice and their waste (fecals or urine) are contaminating
the building HVAC or building insulation, may need both steps to clean up or remove infected materials and steps to stop an ongoing
rodent problem. If squirrels are a problem, the cleanup needs to include closing off entry openings into the building. Get some
help from a licensed pest control expert.
