That looks like stemonitis, a brown, rather hairy looking mold growth.

It's not that the fungus is a high risk health hazard but that it's an indicator of wet conditions which of course means that there may be other hidden damage or other hidden mold growth.

Thank you for your insight as to the different molds that can be dangerous. I just wanted to upload an image for ur use of the mold found on my vinyl siding just a couple weeks after hurricane Florence, in Jacksonville, NC.

I have 3 additional photos that are of better quality but was only able to upload one.

U may have the additional ones (at no charge) if u email me attrishlopez1@yahoo.com

Burry photo of brwon, white, tank, red molds and yeasts (probably) on an indoor wall (C) InspectApdia.com GunillaGun

You need to

1. Cut out and REMOVE completely the water-damaged drywall or plaster to leave no less than a 12" margin of clean, un-damaged drywall or plaster covering the wall around the area of damage

2. Remove any insulation that was wet

3. Find and fix the leak into the wall

4. Clean the wall cavity

5. Re-insulate if it was originally insulated or if it's an exterior wall

6. REplace the drywall, prime and paint. If this is a wall that is wet from tub or shower splash or spray use cement board not drywall (or less preferable, water-resistant gypsum board), and then the wall surface needs to be finished with a water-resistant surface like tile.

Watch out: the fact that the leak appeared in the ceiling below suggests that it is substantial and that there may be additional hidden damage, rot, or mold in the ceiling below - an area that deserves to be investigated so as not to leave a mold reservoir.

What is the proper way of repairing a water damaged bathroom wall which has been ”repaired” 4 times in 6 years by respackling and repainting the water damaged area. [Photo above]

The area is adjacent to the bath tub, visible mold and paint bubbling kept reoccurring, I had to complain extensively each time for repair to take place.

There was and still is visible mold poking through paint job (most likely myxomycetes). I reinforced the area by applying a role of duct tape on top of the paint, still there are holes were floor meets wall, holes were black slimy pieces come through. The area of water damage is approx. 1x1.5 meters, 6 years ago the size was 5x5 centimeter.

The last time it was “repaired” it was done, not because of my continued request to do so, but because my downstairs neighbor had a leak through the bathroom ceiling! What is the proper way to fix this?

White stuff, maybe mold or maybe effloresence on the under side of OSB subflooring (C) InspectApedia.com TomTom:

Take a look at

WHITE MOLD PHOTOS of mold growth in or on buildings

and at

EFFLORESCENCE SALTS & WHITE DEPOSITS - for examples of moisture-related white deposits that are not mold.

The first concerns that occur to me include

  1. Where is the leak or water source causing the problem you photographed?
  2. Is there an ongoing moisture, ventilation, or water entry issue here?
  3. Is there rot or insect damage to the structure?

On 2018-07-1 by Tom U - white stuff on OSB subflooring

Our house is under construction an we were made aware there is mold in the crawl space.

Builder did not have a professional look at it but decided to "clean up" before getting a professional to review.

They blew household fans in the crawl space for several weeks.

I took a couple of pictures and again asked to go in space with them. after pictures it looks like they did some scraping (much of white is gone in the 4 days).

some white and some tan can the mold be still growing in the sub floor and it will come out again in a year or more?

Your photo is too blurry for me to know for absolute certain what mold that is except that it looks like a fungal growth.

I don't know the building materials involved. We often see Stemonitis sp growing up through wet plywood.

IN any event the genera and species of mold - if it's mold - will have no effect on the steps to be taken.

What type of mold is this? It’s on an outside deck that was enclosed to be a four season room.

On 2018-04-29 by (mod) - The health effects of mushrooms -

Connie

The health effects of mushrooms - the fruiting body of many mold genera/species - range from

-no health effects: mushrooms may be food, such as mushrooms you buy at the supermarket

to allergenic, to toxic, to fatal poisons, depending on the mold genera and species.

In general, in a building if I see "mushrooms" growing, I am less focused on identifying the specific mushroom (except for academic interest) and more focused on this:

If you see mushrooms growing in or on your home we know that there are wet (mushroom-favorable) conditions in the home.

Those wet conditions invite many mold genera/species to grow on or in building materials. Most of those that would be found in or on a home are at least allergenic and often pathogenic (harmful to health). We need to

1. find and remove the mold

2. find and fix the leaks that caused its growth

So the mushrooms are an indicator that action is needed.

I don't have a comment, but I do have a question what does brown mold mushrooms do to you?

On 2017-08-12 by (mod) - Can brown mold bleed thru recently painted walls

Possibly, Judy, in that painted-over mold can sometimes grow further and show up on the outer surface of the new paint.

But more often the bleed through I find is something else such as cigarette smoke tar deposits or foot and cooking grease stains.

On 2017-04-28 by (mod) - Killing mold is the wrong approach

Mary,

Both disinfectants you name will "kill" mold spores, though often not all of them, but "killing" mold is the wrong objective since even a "dead" mold spore may still be toxic or harmful to breathe.

Clean off or remove the mold, fix the leaks.
