Terminal Man - I

I am the end of a line
Extending back to time's beginning,
First light, last light, a pile of atoms
Organized by a unique molecular map, DNA
Has been bound since bacteria first grew,
Fishes swam in cooling waters, birds
Struggled upwards, and at the last second,
Wo/man kind took its ease.
Stops.
Physical bonds asunder,
No more.
I must, then,
Give, and do what I can, and be
Grateful, so grateful,
To the rest of you
Who carry on.
