Repairs to a Leaky Aluminum Gutter Joint

We didn't want to have to remove the entire gutter at this leaky inside miter joint, but leaks had been recurrent, rotting a window sill below. Prior attempts to just glob on roof cement or butyl caulk simply were not durable.

We used a combination of plastic mesh and butyl caulk spread carefully across the leaky gutter slip joint connector to make a lasting repair. Our second photo (above right) shows the author (DF) inspecting the gutter after rainfall.
