NO. 39860 50 PASTURE LANE POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. 12603 PHONE: (914) 462-6452 January 4, 1996 Mr. Thomas Castino, President Underwriters Laboratories 333 Pfingsten Road Northbrook, IL 60062-2096 Dear Mr. Castino: The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention the results of tests on a connector that UL recently listed for aluminum wire applications. The connector, the Ideal #65, does not meet the UL486C heat-cycle test performance requirements when tested with splices representative of the common pigtailing combination used in aluminum-wired homes, even though the connector is UL listed for those wire combinations. I request that UL review the scope of the wire combinations for which this connector is listed, and delete those for which the connector has not been thoroughly tested by UL. Additional summary information on the performance of these connectors is included in the enclosed copy of a letter to Mr. W. King at CPSEC on this subject (1/3/96). Yours truly, Jesse Aronstein JA/td
